4MB ROM + 8KB FRAM Fast HiROM SNES Development Cartridge

Completed: 4/10/2010, Build Time: One Week.

Notes:
This cartridge was designed and built for personal testing use. It supports up to 4MB of Fast HiROM spread across four M27C801 UV EPROMs. An 8KB Ramtron FM1608 is also mapped in $00:6000-$00:7FFF, and may be used for save data. The memory mapper is implemented on a single GAL16V8 chip, and the mapper code is freely downloadable below if you wish to build your own cartridge. Wiring is fairly simple, albeit high in quantity.

Design Materials:
PAL Mapper Code- Used to program the GAL16V8, for PALASM4.
PAL Mapper Pinout- Useful if you wish to build your own cartridge.

32KB Battery Backed SRAM Daughter Card

Completed: 7/20/2010, Build Time: An Afternoon.

Notes:
This SRAM module was built to act as a simple drop-in replacement for FRAM when needed. An HY62256A supplies the 32KB of backup SRAM, and a 1026B regulator provides power management between the battery and SRAM. As the test cartridge above only supports 8KB of backup memory with its given banking scheme, the upper 24KB remains unused.
